What’s Your Brand?

There’s a lot of talk about brand development lately. It all comes down to this….if your target audience doesn’t recognize who you are: you need stronger brand development.

 

Think of it like a group of kids playing charades. The first kid is up and is trying to tell the group they are eating a banana. First, they peel the banana. Then they “ape” around the room, making themself look like a total monkey.

 

The group is clueless. “Are you a monkey?” they say. “Some other animal?” they ask. If this kid was a company, his brand would be in serious trouble. Sort of like slipping on that banana peel that doesn’t exist. The kid sits down.

 

The next kid goes. He looks at the piece of paper for his clue and gets a gleam in his eye. Then he picks up a flashlight and puts a lampshade on his head. He turns the flashlight on and just stands there.

 

The group looks at him and all together says, “The Statue of Liberty!” Bingo. That kid knows about brand development (lampshade and all).
